Breaking the rules never felt so good.

PFC Jordan Boone's only goals when he arrived at Fort Kennedy were to keep a low profile and work hard at being a Cavalry Scout. He never expected he'd catch the eye of Truman Barnett, son of the Post Commander or that he'd fall for a teenager.
When Tru saw Jordan, it was lust at first sight. Having spent all his life on base after base, he'd had enough of the military to last him a lifetime; but Tru couldn’t fight the urge to get close to Jordan.
Can an enlisted man and the son of the highest ranking officer on base navigate their way through the minefield of obstacles that stand in their way and actually have a chance at a relationship?

Army Brat edition by Lisa Wilde Romance eBooks

Sweet, yet sad and frustrating, story about life as a gay man in the military.

I enjoyed Jordan and Tru together, I think they were a good fit and complement to each other. I liked Jordan and felt very badly for his struggles- finding someone he really cared about but feeling like he couldn't do anything about it because of the life he had chosen for himself. Tru was probably my favorite character- he's had a tough life living with that man who's supposed to be his father but cares more about the military than about his own son.

Towards the end of the book, after the General got involved, that's when things kind of went off track for me. The story lost steam and things kind of fizzled out and then were wrapped up too simply. I was hoping for a much more satisfying resolution to Jordan and Tru's story- I think they, and the readers, deserved more. While I can let my imagination run free, I wish there had been an epilogue- this is one story that I feel definitely called for one.

There were some grammatical and editing errors that sadly did detract me from the story at times- the book could have benefited from one more edit.

Army Brat edition by Lisa Wilde Romance eBooks Reviews

Lisa Wild has a great story for those who enjoy M/M romance. I'd like to read more of these characters!
I've never been a huge fan of YA Reads, but Tru and Jordan story was a great read. The author did a fabulous job bringing me into the story. I was hooked from the beginning. Although I felt my heart break for these two a few times, I also laughed and thoroughly enjoyed this read.
I look forward to more books from this author.
I loved this. I grew up as a military brat and could totally relate to this, relate to Tru. I wanted more of these two. The only issue I have is that I never found out about Deveraux and what he knew and how he knew it and what his intentions were. I'm hoping Wilde will have a book for him and maybe Jordan and Tru could be in it to, since I'm writing the rest of their story in my head the next day... I just loved it....
Absolutely terrific read. Complex MCs, stellar writing (a few boo-boos, but nothing that took you out of the story), engaging plot, great secondary characters and over the top sexiness. Minor quibble - lots of military jargon that I had to Google - which did take me out of the story. But I was was so mesmerized by Tru and Jordan, that it didn't matter. Tru was in your face cocky - hard to believe he was 17 at the beginning of the book. But then we see hints of the teen he is. And Jordan, sweet, just trying to live his life in the military. Very emotional read. I cried and cried at sections and then cheered with tears streaming down my face at the end. New to me author. Hope she writes more MMs.
Contact is best in group settings, but can develop into close relationships unless careful about meeting. The brats are quick to make friends and enjoy any opportunities to do fun activities. Avoiding parents and pushing limits is part of the games, but for junior military, if can be scary very quickly. Trust can be built in a short time to allow participation in sports events, camping, hiking, and similar with the brats, but it can become hard to control when the brats are away from their parents for longer periods.

After many years frequent notes refresh the memories with many friends.

Tru and Boone moved too fast with too much risk, but the enduring nature of their relationship lasted for the forced separation. Somehow they will work it out.
****Minor Spoilers in review****
I'll be honest, I am not a fan of YA/coming of age books. BUT . . . . this one worked for me. I knew who Jordan was, I could see in his head, understand his confusion. And Tru, he is sweet, just plain sweet. I appreciated that the author did a great deal of research into what life in the Army is really like and it's SO refreshing to have a character who is not a SEAL or Army Ranger, or Marine Force Recon. Let's hear it for the every day Joe! My one tiny complaint, I would have liked to read more about how each character dealt with their separation, but that is just a selfish wish on my part. I wasn't left unsatisfied by the end. I can see Jordan and Tru taking their relationship for the long haul.
Loved it. I was hooked from the start and stayed up way too late wanting to finish it. I really like Tru a lot. He was only 17 at the beginning, but he's had to live a more responsible/adult life than a lot of adults. He had a rebellious streak that allowed him to sneak into bars and drink and do a little weed, but I thought that was kind of a good thing because his dad treated him like an army recruit. Tru spotted Jordan at this bar and set out to get close to Jordan, and his pursuit was single minded and entertaining. Jordan didn't stand a chance. Tru was a nice mix of shy, cocky and confident.

I liked what bits were revealed about Tru's friends and Jordan's roommate Andrews. I kept hoping that Tru would trust Andrews more, he seemed like a trustworthy guy.

I didn't agree with Jordan shutting Tru out on social media near the end. It went on too long (trying not to reveal too much here). He thought it was the only choice and that he was doing what was best, but I didn't see it that way. But even though that happened I still really loved the book and know it'll be one that I'll reread. The ending although promising, was abrupt and left me wanting more, and left me with questions about where things are going. Hopefully there is a book 2 to clear up any questions. I was thoroughly entertained and will watch for more from this author.
